Amigos Center & Community Garden

Desierto Verde or Green Desert is the name of the new community garden at Calvary UMC.  The result of the work of Amigos Center led by director Lucas Cabrera, the garden is 10,000 sq ft and will be home to a variety of planting, growing, and community.

Amigos Center at Calvary 

Amigos Center

Amigos Center is a part of the Wesley Center

  • English classes offer four levels then level five students teach others
  • GED program and tutoring to prepare students for the state test
  • Periodic dance classes
  • Spanish class
  • Healthy living classes and programs

As a community center, Amigos is involved in several neighborhood associations helping coordinate and motivate community involvement.  Amigos is leading in a new program called Maryvale on the Move.

Volunteer opportunities

  • English teachers
  • Tutors (spend at least one hour per week one-on-one
  • Office and coordination help
  • Community service
